Of Hers and Mine

Of Hers and Mine is a mixed reality performance that depicts the complexities of coping with intergenerational trauma. During the piece, the artist's face is seen in a video projection, staring directly at the camera. Beside the projected image, the artist is seen live, entangled in black thread. As they work fruitlessly to untangle themself from the tread--an impossible task--their body is captured by a camera and live-streamed atop the video of the artists face. The overlayed body and string then becomes a mask, blanking out the artists face to reveal a photo of their grandmother's face beneath it. The soundscape of the work includes audio snippets from a lecture on intergenerational trauma by Dr. Carolyn Ross, fragmented anecdotes from the artist's father, and the repetitious sounds of a copier machine.
